There were eight tornado reports in Indiana on March 14 and 15, according to preliminary data from the National Weather Service’s storm prediction center.
All reports were EF-0 or EF-1, which means weak to moderate tornadoes There are no reported deaths. Nationally, the Associated Press reported storms killed at least 39 people over the weekend.

A 60-year-old man is dead following an accidental house fire Monday morning. According to a news release, firefighters from the Monroe Fire Protection District arrived at the house fire on South Fairfax Road a little after 1 a.m. Monday. Monroe County Sheriff Deputies notified the firefighters there was a high possibility of an older person living in the home who didn’t typically leave. Firefighters were able to enter through the back of the house. They found a man unresponsive in the kitchen.

A 48-year-old man is dead after a shooting Thursday night in northwest Bloomington. The shooting occurred at 1037 N. Summit St., according to the Bloomington Police Department crime log. Officers responded to a report of shots fired and found a man lying outside the residence with a gunshot wound to the head. The man, identified as Brian Thacker, was declared dead after efforts to resuscitate him at the hospital.

A deputy sheriff who was shot multiple times last week is in critical but stable condition, according to the Indiana State Police. Deputy Zach Andry from French Lick was shot four times, including once in the head, while assisting a stopped car. He is being treated at the UofL Hospital in Louisville. According to Orange County Sheriff David Henderson and the Indiana State Police, Andry pulled over at 12:50 a.m. Jan. 3 to check on a car on State Road 56.

The Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity at Indiana University has disbanded. IU’s Office of Student Life listed its suspension, effective Nov. 15, for dishonest conduct, endangering others, physical abuse and hazing. The fraternity was founded at Indiana University in 1911. According to the Office of Student Life, a suspension “means the student organization will cease and desist all activities and disband.

Bloomington’s only Party City and Staples locations are both closing Jan. 17. The stores are in the shopping area on East Third Street. A Party City employee said the company’s lease is ending. Party City is holding sales, with most items at least 20 percent off, and Halloween items 75 percent off. Staples is starting its closing sales next week. Pack your binoculars — Indiana has entered its peak season for the migration of sandhill cranes. More than 20,000 sandhill cranes are traveling through the Jasper-Pulaski Fish and Wildlife Area for their annual migration. 20,535 cranes on the property Tuesday. This peak count comes a week later than last year’s peak of nearly 33,000 cranes. The Jasper-Pulaski FWA is almost three hours from Bloomington.
