The Society of Authors 2024 Awards will be celebrated at tonight’s SoA Awards ceremony at Southwark Cathedral, as 31 winners share a prize fund of over £140,000. The awards are for authors at all stages of their careers, for books of poetry, fiction and non-fiction, across a variety of genres. This year, SoA Management Committee Chair Vanessa Fox O’Loughlin will host the awards, with a keynote speech from bestselling author Kate Mosse.

It wasn’t actually my idea! It was my brilliant editor, Lucy. I wasn’t sure at first, and then the idea for the definition of ‘foxlight’ struck me, and how I could weave it into the story itself. I was keen to write something a bit different, something set outside of the very contemporary worlds I’d been writing about previously. I didn’t want to go full fantasy, and I wanted to keep my favourite themes of wildness and love and hope and nature.

Following the shortlist announcement on the 31st March we've been eagerly anticipating the winners of the UKLA Book Awards 2023. The only UK children's book awards that are judged entirely by teachers sees new ground broken this year as Katya Balen, last year's winner in the 7-11+ category for October, October takes the category prize again this year with The Light in Everything. This is the first time an author has won in consecutive years in the history of the UKLA Book Awards.

And Louie Stowell’s Loki, A Bad God’s Guide To Being Good – about the Norse god being banished to earth to live as an 11 year old schoolboy - comes 1st! Louie Stowell is named overall winner of The Children’s Book Award 2023.
