The annual Alliance Chamber of Commerce awards banquet was held Tuesday, Jan. 11 at the West Side Events Center in Alliance. Those honored during the annual event included:Best of AllianceThe Best of Alliance award was designed for the citizens of Alliance to recognize and vote for a business that goes above and beyond with the best customer service. “The nominations poured in on Facebook causing multiple rounds to a nail biting tie breaker,” Alliance Chamber Director Susan Unzicker said.

Drayden Sanchez picked through conglomerations of what people hoped would become something new, opening bags like a chef cracking eggs first thing every morning at the Keep Alliance Beautiful Recycling Center. Tragically, he passed away just weeks after joining our crew. Drayden could be counted among a handful of employees I have hired since being promoted. He was conscientious and dedicated.

This week I would like to bring your attention to a tax problem that many who read my articles may not be aware of. On November 22 I attended a joint hearing of the Legislature’s Appropriations Committee and Revenue Committee at the State Capitol in Lincoln. The purpose of this annual joint hearing is to receive reports from the Nebraska Department of Revenue on the tax policies of the State. Of particular interest to me was an update on the State’s tax incentive programs.

As we celebrate the miracle that took place in a humble manager so many Christmases ago, we are filled with a sense of peace, joy, contentment and love. The Madonna and Child photo on the front of the Hemingford Ledger is a tradition that began 69 years ago. Although this year we’re celebrating a little early but it’s a tradition that needed to be carried out. Thank you to Steph Mantooth at Steph’s Studio for making this magical photo happen. For to us a child is born.

Robert Lee Minich and Cynthia Kay Mittelsteadt were married on December 29, 1969. Bob was home on leave from basic training when the couple, who were already engaged, decided to wed. “We celebrated Christmas at my folks place and I was supposed to let everyone know about the wedding then but I was too nervous so I called them the next day,” said Bob. They were married in front of the fireplace at his childhood home.

For three generations, The Hemingford Ledger was owned and operated by the Kuhn family, up until the sale of the newspaper to the Omaha World-Herald’s newspaper group in 2007. Gifts are available for infant through adults at no cost. Children are invited to select gifts for family members. Those under 12 must be accompanied by adultsAll selections are free but donations are accepted. Proceeds go towards summer reading program at the Hemingford Library.
