    Subway, which was founded in Connecticut in 1965, announced Thursday it’s being bought by a private equity firm. Affiliates of Roark Capital Group are buying the sandwich shop company. The purchase price was about $9.6 billion, The Wall Street Journal reports. Roark's investments include a number of fast food and sit-down restaurants, including Dunkin', Jimmy John's, Moe's and Arby's. Subway has long been based in Milford, although it also has a headquarters in Miami.

    A mayoral candidate and alderman in the town of Derby faces several federal charges in connection with the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Gino DiGiovanni Jr. turned himself in Tuesday at federal court in New Haven. According to NBC Connecticut, DiGiovanni faces two counts of entering a restricted building, one count of disorderly conduct inside a Capitol building, and one count of parading, demonstrating, or picketing inside a Capitol building.

    Wesleyan University, a liberal arts college in Middletown, announced Wednesday it will end legacy admissions in the wake of a recent Supreme Court decision striking down affirmative action. "Legacy status has played a negligible role in our admission process for many years," Michael Roth, Wesleyan's president, said in a letter to faculty and students.
