BERLIN—The former husband of a Japanese woman who died in late January in Hungary despite repeatedly reaching out to authorities has been arrested by Hungarian police on suspicion of murder. The woman's body was found after a fire broke out in a Budapest apartment on Jan. 29. The former husband, an Irish national, was arrested on Feb. 3 in Hungary. According to reports by local media, the woman had contacted police after being subjected to domestic violence and death threats.

BERLIN--Elderly Japanese volunteer Fuminori Tsuchiko, who has been providing free meals to Ukrainians following Russia’s invasion, received an award for his humanitarian efforts on Aug. 23. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented the National Legend of Ukraine award to people who have made a significant contribution to the development of the country’s health care, education and other fields. Eight people received the award this year.
