TORONTO -- The Blue Jays couldn’t outrun this forever, and if the next few days go according to plan, they won’t need to. Friday night’s 7-1 loss to the White Sox was a look at what the Blue Jays have been dodging all season long. Rotation holes have a way of snowballing if you don’t manage them perfectly, which requires a few good bounces along the way.

TORONTO -- This feels like the year to aim a little higher. This version of the Blue Jays, led by Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette and the veterans this front office continues to stack around them, have been to the postseason three times (2020, ’22, ’23). Those have all been Wild Card tickets, though, and all three trips ended with a quick, uniquely painful two-game sweep. The Blue Jays aren’t a great team yet, but the American League doesn’t boast much greatness at the moment.

“Él siempre cree que sus pitcheos están listos. Lo importante es cómo se siente físicamente durante la salida, al día siguiente y en los días posteriores”, dijo el piloto de los Azulejos, John Schneider, más temprano el miércoles. “Eso es lo que hemos considerado con él. Cree que puede ponchar a todos ahora mismo. Ya sea a las siete de la mañana o a las siete de la noche, él va a atacarte”.

He’s taken the long road, derailed by that nuisance of a right thumb, but it finally feels like Scherzer is ready to return to the surging Blue Jays. While the Blue Jays were busy beating the D-backs, 8-1, Wednesday night in Toronto, Scherzer was blowing through a Triple-A lineup 500 miles away in Worcester, Mass., striking out eight batters over 4 1/3 shutout innings. More importantly, Scherzer threw 75 pitches … exactly 75 pitches.

Bowden Francis was one strike away from the #BlueJays not needing to have this conversation, but here we are. Story: https://t.co/Bjcuy5tZ7l

Francis’ next start would come next Friday at home against the White Sox, who rank 27th in runs scored. Everything’s on the table. It’s even a rare spot I’d entertain an opener to give Francis a softer entry. Scherzer still needing one more start matters here, too. #BlueJays

Francis, like Schneider, pointed to positives from the first 3 innings while still acknowledging the 4th: Francis: “I think the three [innings] outweigh the four batters that got away. I think there’s a lot of positives we can take from that and continue to work.” #BlueJays
