The more I learn about what happened on the south side of my own hometown, starting in darkness early on May 4, the angrier I become. It’s not just that federally driven storm troopers, under the dictates of a broken immigration system, stopped, seized, and “disappeared” dozens of unnamed, unnumbered people. It’s that the lack of information about where they were taken has devastated their families even more.

Dozens of people were seized and “disappeared” in Nashville, Tennessee, beginning May 4th, leaving families devastated by the lack of information. State and federal officials have offered no explanation for the disappearances, claiming the actions reflect the will of the voters. The lack of due process and transparency from authorities should concern all citizens. The more I learn about what happened early Sunday, over on the southside of town, the angrier I become. It’s not just that federally-driven storm troopers, under the dictates of a broken immigration system, seized and “disappeared” people - unnamed and unnumbered - with no civil word to devastated relatives about where they were taken. There has been no public explanation - only unhelpful silence - from state and federal authorities. This has only added gross insult to civil law injuries.

Many readers responded with helpful suggestions. I am grateful to you all. Many Things, Not Just one - Part 2Twice in the past ten days I have been reminded by friends of something the great Joan Baez famously expressed some sixty years ago.

“Racial profiling is an insult to our city and all our families. It is harmful and hurtful to civil society.“ My column… https://t.co/Hm93HFSKm5

“Loved ones of the ‘disappeared’ fear the worst, and the elected officials who have so utterly caved to an extreme Trump regime – Gov. Lee, US Senators Blackburn and Hagerty, other Republicans in the Legislature – have made themselves scarce.” My column.. https://t.co/Hm93HFSKm5

“In a saner world, a President would by now at least have assured seniors that their personal Social Security data will not be compromised and also veterans that their services from the Veterans Administration will not be lost.” My column… https://t.co/vI8j6S3qVe
