LAST week I met with Chief Superintendent, Roddy Irvine, who is the area police commander for Forth Valley. I took the opportunity to raise a number of issues with him which have been raised with my office over recent months – including police resourcing for Clackmannanshire, increased incidents of anti-social behaviour in Alloa town centre and cases of dangerous and illegal parking. I was pleased to receive a firm commitment from CS Irvine to addressing these issues.

2 1/1 Next month will mark 25 years since the Scottish Parliament was reconvened. The Parliament came at the end of a century long debate on what type of self-government was best for Scotland and was backed by 75 per cent of Scots – two facts so conveniently forgotten by today's UK Government.

Money makes the world go round. So goes the song and it is, to a great extent, true. Almost everything we do is determined by the supply of money. That has been particularly in evidence in the last few weeks with Budgets abounding in local Councils, in Westminster and in the Scottish Parliament. I am pleased that the Scottish Government has been able to provide local government the funding to underwrite a freezing of the Council Tax.

At the end of September, I was pleased to be in attendance as the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders 5th Battalion marched through Alloa to mark Armed Forces Day. The regiment was bestowed the freedom of Clackmannanshire by the then Provost Derek Stewart in 2006 and it was great to see them exercise that freedom. It was also great to catch up with Derek as he was granted the freedom of the County in recognition of his lengthy public service in Clackmannanshire.

LAST month, I was able to help Robert Thomson, a former postmaster in my constituency, highlight the plight of hundreds like him across the UK, wrongly convicted of theft, fraud, and false accounting – all because of a faulty Post Office software program called Horizon. Innocent people lost their jobs, their livelihoods, and their reputations despite having done nothing wrong.
