@HACKETTREF Definitely agree with being proactive. But if, despite that, the player commits an offence that is worthy of a yellow then it has to be given.

@HACKETTREF Yes of course it is. But it appears you say a player already on a yellow can get away with more than someone who isn’t, seems inconsistent. How on earth are players meant to conduct themselves with them knowing different standards are applied to different players?

@HACKETTREF The first yellow is intended as the caution not to engage in foul play for the rest of the game. Not a message that they could be treated less harshly for the rest of the game.

@HACKETTREF Player commits two offences, A and B. A is an 'orange' and B is a 'yellow' using your (helpful) phrasing. In your argument, a player committing offence A then offence B, would remain on the pitch. But, had they committed the same 2 offences but in the other order, they'd be off

@HACKETTREF That feels unfair. Obviously a valid question about whether we should be thinking of cards as 'game management' tools or whether they should be defined punishments for defined offences. Or, on a sliding scale, where is the right balance?

@HACKETTREF Nonsense. This “raised bar” for a second yellow means a player can take more risks. The first yellow is meant to be a caution not to do that, not an encouragement

@HACKETTREF What a load of rubbish. The second yellow threshold should be no different to first yellow. The consistency is the thing that drives fans crazy. Scott not being booked then Richards getting booked for a 'softer' foul. That's the trouble. Then Adams not getting booked after that!
