When Libby arrived into the care of Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter in 2015, her fluffy blonde fur was stained red. She’d been shot in the chest and abandoned, left to suffer until Animal Control picked her up and brought her in. When TMAS then-volunteer Mary Calhoun first glimpsed that fur and her brown-eyed, heart-stealing stare, she knew this dog was special.

The 52nd Kentuck Festival of the Arts was overshadowed — literally in some spots, by a Dirt Mountain nestled at the park’s edge. If you were there, odds are good you heard more than one festival-goer question the Mountain’s purpose. That dirt was being stored there as part of the McWrights Ferry Road expansion project, and its existence came alongside the city of Northport’s redevelopment of the ballparks around Kentuck Park.
