OPELIKA, Ala. (WTVM) - Pickleball courts located at a newly built recreation center in Auburn will become open to the public this week. 12 covered and lit courts will open Wednesday at Lake Wilmore Park Recreation Center on Grove Hill Road near Ogletree Elementary School. They will be available for public use free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis unless they’re reserved or used for a parks and recreation program.

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - A celebration of life will be held in May for the father and son who died at Bull Creek Golf Course Sunday. Matthew Collins Jr. and his dad, Matthew Collins Sr., passed away due to the result of an EF-1 tornado. According to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan, a tree fell on top of them while in their golf cart on the course. The father was 58 years old and the son was 29. Both from Waverly Hall, Georgia.

OPELIKA, Ala. (WTVM) - The East Alabama Community Foundation hosted its first Community Trust Grants Presentation on Thursday to support local organizations and initiatives in East Alabama. The event was held at the Opelika Public Library. The foundation presented donations to 12 nonprofits- totaling $30,525.21.

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - The 2024 shoe recycling campaign is underway to help those in need and keep shoes from going to the landfill. Keep Columbus Beautiful is kicked off their “Shoe Us the Love Again” campaign on Nov. 15. It will run until January 25, 2025. During this period, officials encourage individuals to donate gently worn shoes in any size and style, including slippers and flip-flops. Their goal is to collect over 30,000 pairs of shoes.
