Near the end of 2024, the support group Lupus in Color posted the following “lupus serenity prayer” on Instagram:“God, grant me the serenity to accept the changes and challenges of living with lupus, the courage to face each day with strength, and the wisdom to do what’s good for my mind, body, and soul as I seek the support and treatment I need for a healthier life.”This prayer was written by Lupus in Color founder Racquel Dozier. It asks for serenity, courage, and wisdom.

Summer is officially here, and while I’m trying to shield myself from the sun, practically everyone I know is talking about their travel plans. There are six white seashells covered in sand that have been washed ashore by Lake Pontchartrain onto Lincoln Beach in New Orleans. It took me nearly half an hour to reach the spot where they lay. Because I was headstrong and ready for a post-flare adventure, I climbed the levee wall and a short chain-link fence, descended a wooden ladder, crossed two railroad tracks, and walked along the path bordered by pine and camphor trees before reaching the historic beach.

About 91% of lupus patients report they are currently taking or had been using oral steroids to manage their symptoms, according to a global survey of more than 7,700 patients. The World Lupus Federation (WLF) released ahead of World Lupus Day, observed May 10 to call attention to the chronic disorder in which the immune system attacks the body’s own healthy tissue. The survey was completed by 7,741 patients from 108 countries.

Three women with the autoimmune conditions systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and Sjögren’s syndrome saw their symptoms ease after starting a diet rich in plant-based raw foods, according to a recent case series report. The diet included mainly leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables, flax or chia seeds as a source of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, and water.
