Not only was multiple Grade 1 star Far Bridge the class of the short field in Saturday’s $388,000 Man o’ War (G2), but the 3-10 favorite also enjoyed a perfect trip at Aqueduct. That proved to be an unbeatable combination, as Far Bridge bested the hard-trying closer Anglophile. The top two are bred along the same exact lines. Both are by English Channel and out of mares by Kitten’s Joy – the champion turf males of 2007 and 2004, respectively, who together furnish quite a productive cross.

Saturday’s $934,200 Old Forester Bourbon Turf Classic (G1) was an open-looking renewal on paper, and it remained so when most of the field fanned across the Churchill Downs course in a frenetic dash for home. Then 3.12-1 favorite Spirit of St Louis flew onto the radar late to win going away, giving his connections a Grade 1 turf double on Kentucky Derby Day. After rain forced a weather delay, Queen Maxima bolted up as the 2.14-1 second choice in the Unbridled Sidney (G3).

After foiling a pair of Godolphin hotpots in her Group 2 double during the Dubai Carnival, British shipper Choisya ended trainer Chad Brown’s streak in Saturday’s $521,657 Jenny Wiley (G1) at Keeneland. Brown, who had won the turf feature for the past three years in a row, and seven times overall, sent out 3-1 favorite Excellent Truth in a bid to extend his record. But the 6.83-1 Choisya, well placed early by Luis Saez, got first run with a dream opening on the rail.
