What have you enjoyed watching on telly recently? I enjoyed Severance on Apple TV, and I’ve just finished the second series of Silo. I’d highly recommend that. I also thought The Traitors was really good. How do you think you’d fare on The Traitors? Whenever I play among friends, I’m always the first to get voted out.

When did you realise you wanted to become an actor? When I was really young. For people from the Isle of Man, it’s harder to meet the right people. I was always doing school plays, but I just thought it was fun. You applied for an open casting call and landed the lead role in Heartstopper. How did it feel? It felt very surreal. It’s still very crazy to think what my life would have been like if it hadn’t happened…What do you think it would have looked like?

I had quite a peculiar but natural progression into the industry. I went to a Saturday acting club and they had an agency, so I started doing commercials. You went from commercials to playing the young Elton John in the Hollywood biopic Rocketman and voicing Pantalaimon in His Dark Materials…The thing is, every step you take in your career feels like the biggest you’re ever going to take. I remember when I did my first TV job that wasn’t a commercial — it was an episode of Casualty.
