Despite previously taking millions of dollars from the Conservation Collier Trusts, the Collier County Commission moved forward with large conservation land purchases during their meeting on Tuesday, April 22. The Commission approved the purchase of Williams Reserve in Immokalee at a purchase price of nearly $20.1 million for the 2,247 acres of farmland and slough. “We have long sought the acquisition of that slough area,” said County Commissioner Bill McDaniel.

An Amazon delivery landed in the Everglades on Saturday, and it wasn’t from an online shopping spree. Instead, Arassari Pataxó, a member of a bird clan who lives in the Amazon forest of Brazil, arrived in the Everglades alongside the local Bird Clan of the Miccosukee and Seminole Tribes of Florida. Both Clans, near and far, as well as others, came with messages to connect with nature and ancestors during the International Big Mamma Day Festival at the Miccosukee Village.
