An elderly couple's home has been flooded 20 times since they bought it as their "forever home" in 2021. Peter and Patricia Clarke, who moved to the property in Swindon from Cornwall three years ago, said a pond on council land near their home regularly overflowed and poured into their back garden. Mrs Clarke, 76, has dug ditches and built a DIY dam in an attempt to protect the property.

Construction workers were shot at with BB guns amid a rising number of reports of roadworker abuse, a worker has said. The Milestone Infrastructure employee, who wished to remain anonymous, said the incident happened at about midday on 5 April on Fisherton Street in Salisbury. "It's disgusting. We're here to earn a wage and go home safely to our partners, our kids. The abuse needs to stop," he said. Wiltshire Police is investigating the alleged incident.

A community group hoping to boost biodiversity on land formerly owned by a local tire company have lost out to a rival bidder. The Melksham Green Space group wanted to preserve 28.5 acres of land next to the River Avon for the community. Its chair, Nigel Benham, said: "I feel devastated for the town."A spokesperson from Cushman and Wakefield, who auctioned the land on behalf of Cooper Tire and Rubber, said they are unable to provide any further details because the process is ongoing.

A petition against plans for a solar farm spanning 2,000 acres (810 hectares) across countryside in north Wiltshire has gained thousands of signatures, with hundreds of people attending a recent public meeting about the proposals too. The development aims to create 500MW of clean energy, said to be enough to power 115,000 homes. If approved it would occupy agricultural land in six villages, including Sherston, Hullavington and Stanton St Quintin, near Malmesbury.

The building has been designed as a multi-use community hub with a community police office at the rear of the building.
