President Trump's ever-changing tariffs have caused some confusion for Americans, as higher prices and expectations of empty store shelves threaten to change the ways consumers stock up on essentials. Assuaging concerns among consumers and on Wall Street — at least for the time being — a U.S. agreement with China, announced on Monday by the White House, would effectively reduce the level of U.S. taxes still in place on Chinese goods to about 30% from 145%.

President Trump is considering announcing the creation of what he calls the "External Revenue Service" on Wednesday as the White House launches his new trade agenda and collects tariff revenues from around the globe, according to sources familiar with the planning. Mr. Trump is also aiming to again alter Washington's trade relationship with Beijing, and will likely charge tariffs on low-value merchandise shipped from China to individual U.S. consumers.

President Donald Trump's proposed tariffs could drive up the cost of cars, both new and used, and drive up the costs of parts to keep those cars on the roads. Tom Maoli owns a car dealership in New Jersey, and with President Trump proposing 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada, he warns car prices could climb significantly "I think it's going to be a minimum of five (percent). It could be up to 15%," Maoli said. The higher prices won't stop at new cars.
