Los Angeles-based designer Barbara Barry looked to her own backyard in designing her textile and wallcovering collection with Hartmann&Forbes. Drawing her inspiration from the illuminating light of Southern California and the forms of her natural surroundings, the Barbara Barry Collection is as peaceful as it is powerful. We sat down with Barbara to learn all about her creative process. Raymond Paul Schneider: What was your initial inspiration, and where did the idea(s) come from?

Jennifer Farrell is no stranger to design on a grand scale. Included on her creative resume are individual clients, TV appearances and the full scope of showhouse development — from initial concept through opening day and beyond. For those of us who wear glasses, the options are endless. In my family, my brother visits a local optician (whom he’s known since high school) every couple of years and chooses three pairs; he then proceeds to call for a family meeting. One by one, he tries each pair on in a deliberate model-esque peekaboo fashion, creating a narrative “bit.” Sounds corny, but we all know it for what it is and have grown to love and appreciate the ritual over the years. Only one pair makes the cut.
