A deadly police shooting in Bridgeport has been deemed a homicide, according to the preliminary status report released Friday by the Office of the Inspector General. The report says the use of deadly force by Bridgeport police officer, Yoon Heo, caused the death of 39-year-old Dyshan Best. Bridgeport Police Chief, Roderick Porter, announced Friday that Heo is now on administrative leave.

The city of Hartford is gearing up to celebrate the 60th year of The Greater Hartford Puerto Rican Day Parade this Sunday, Sept. 22. Parade organizers say they are pulling out all the stops in honor of the 60th anniversary of Hartford’s parade. The parade will feature nearly 3,000 marching participants, community members as well as an array of entertainers. The Connecticut Institute for Community Development is organizing the festivities.

Henry Kissinger, the former U.S. Secretary of State, died at his home in Kent, Connecticut, Wednesday. The diplomat had close ties to the area. Kent First Selectman Marty Lindenmayer remembered the former diplomat as a supporter of the local library and land trust. Kissinger was sometimes seen at town events or restaurants, he said. “It's a blow because he has been, in a lot of ways, a larger than life figure, but one that was very close to the town and personable to the town,” Lindenmayer said.

Connecticut has consistently ranked in the top three-to-five states with the highest number of impaired driving fatalities each year. “It’s a major issue in Connecticut,” said Eric Jackson, executive director of the CT Transportation Institute at the University of Connecticut. “And probably over the last 15 to 20 years, we’ve not had a noticeable decline in the number of impaired driving fatalities.”The COVID-19 pandemic made things worse, he said.
