The Middletown School Committee approved a new district wide cell phone policy after a second and final reading on March 20. The policy states that all cell phones and personal electronic devices must be powered off and stored for the duration of the school day and during school-related activities.

The first reading of the district’s new cell phone policy left the Middletown School Committee split on Feb. 13, although the policy was unanimously approved, with conditions that efforts will be made to engage with stakeholders before the second reading. The policy would ban cell phones and “personal electronic devices” in the classroom.
