A deadly wrong-way crash closed all lanes of Eastbound Interstate-8 near San Diego State University for more than two hours on Thursday morning. The crash killed 66-year-old Greysi Silva Rivas. The crash was reported in the early morning hours when a BMW, which was driving the wrong way on EB I-8 in the slow lane, crashed head-on into Rivas driving a Mini Cooper, according to the California Highway Patrol. Several Lemon Grove neighbors stood outside their neighborhood early Saturday morning, as a car crash caused multiple parked cars to go up in flames. The crash happened near the corner of Mount Vernon Street and Skyline Drive. "When I come outside there's a huge pillar of fire. So I immediately go to my next-door neighbor right here and I tell them to get out then I come back, and I get my family out," Stephen Perkins, who lives in the neighborhood, said.

A man is recovering in the hospital after what he described as a brutal stabbing attack in Ocean Beach over the weekend. "It's been really volatile particularly the financial markets. Over the last two trading days of the week, almost 4,000 points were lost in terms of the Dow Jones," said Alan Gin, an economics professor at University of San Diego.

The ongoing effort for La Jolla to break away from the City of San Diego is in full swing. The effort has been decades in the making. "We've always sort of been our own entity. We have our own Post Office, our own zip code and these go back to the 1930's," said Diane Kane, Vice President of the Association for the City of La Jolla. The group had a setback recently when they fell short of the necessary signatures to get the ball rolling on breaking up from the City of San Diego.
