Cal Poly's Packaging Club held its annual egg-drop competition at the farmers' market in downtown San Luis Obispo on Thursday evening. The club partners with the global packaging-solutions company Pregis to host the competition with one goal in mind: to keep the egg intact. Competitors create their own packaging or use a club-provided kit to protect their grade-AA large egg, then drop it from a boom lift three stories high, letting it fall to the asphalt below.

One of San Luis Obispo County's most well-known doughnut shops is moving locations. A sign on the SloDoCo building in Atascadero says it will be closing that location and relocating to Paso Robles. Effective Monday, May 12, the SloDoCo storefront at 6917 El Camino Real will be closed. The new location will be at 2110 Spring St. in Paso. The sign at the Atascadero location does not say why the company is closing it.

Two men stranded on their damaged boat off the coast of Isla Vista were rescued by fire officials last Saturday. Now, authorities have released the drone footage that captured some of the incident. Santa Barbara County Fire Department officials posted the drone footage to the department's social media pages. It shows the rescue attempt of two men whose catamaran became disabled three-quarters of a mile offshore after a "mechanical mast issue," officials said in the post.

City staff shared information about the state mapping process and took questions from the community about the new draft maps for Atascadero, which include expanded fire severity zones and updated wildland-urban interface maps.
