Through much of the 1980s, the Calgary Flames battled tooth and nail with the Edmonton Oilers and almost always emerged as the second-best team of the two. But they were also many times the second-best team in the NHL. The Oilers' dominance definitely robbed the Flames of a couple of Stanley Cups, but they did manage to win the franchise's only one in 1989. But they've had some very good teams in fits and spurts after that as well.
