Thirty-four players from Orange, Ulster, Sullivan and Dutchess county schools were named to the New York State girls basketball all-star team. The rankings were conducted by the New York State Sportswriters and Coaches Organization for Girls Sports. All-time school leading scorer Zoe Mesuch of Wallkill was the lone first-team selection (in Class AA) from girls in the Mid-Hudson. Mesuch is bound for the Naval Academy. Gabby Murphy of Marlboro was a second-team choice in Class A.

Twenty-nine players from Orange, Ulster, Sullivan and Dutchess county schools earned spots on the New York State boys basketball all-star team for the 2024-25 season. The rankings were chosen by the New York State Sportswriters Association. Third-team picks included Zach Hart of Our Lady of Lourdes (Class AA) and Jake Maendel of Mount Academy (C). Fourth-team choices included Cayden Dones of New Paltz (A), Parker Ruger of Rhinebeck (B) and Trai Kaufmann of Eldred (D).

West Point Athletics and Army women's basketball head coach Missy Traversi have agreed to part ways, just weeks after the Black Knights were a win away from qualifying for the NCAA tournament. "It is a bittersweet day, as I have poured an enormous amount of effort and energy into building the West Point program since I arrived on campus in 2021,'' Traversi wrote on her X/Twitter account. "Now, my immediate focus shifts to my family, where I'll channel that same energy.

Forty schools from Section 9 will field teams in boys track and field this season. The Section 9 regular-season got underway this week and will conclude on May 14. The Orange County league meet will be May 16 and 17 at Warwick Valley High School. No date has been finalized for the Mid-Hudson Athletic League meet but it is usually the same weekend.
