A large contingent of students from Henry County High School and Rhea Elementary School came out to Patriot Stadium on a bright, sunny morning on April 10 to cheer on many of their fellow classmates in the Paris-Henry County Special Olympics. Jammie Adkisson, local coordinator for the Special Olympics, said 99 students from Henry County schools and the Paris Special School District came out to compete. The students are aged kindergarten through 12th grade.

Another big step has been taken toward completion of The Levi Miles Foundation Playground at Ogburn Park. The Paris Municipal Regional Planning Commission agreed on April 10 to a site plan that had been submitted on behalf of the planned playground, which will be Henry County’s first fully inclusive playground, serving special needs children and families of all backgrounds and abilities. The playground is going to occupy more than 1.3 acres of land at Ogburn Park, one of Paris’ oldest city parks.

Some folks just can’t wait to get started when it comes to the World’s Biggest Fish Fry. Though the bulk of the event’s festivities are scheduled during the week of April 21-26, the Fish Fry will get off to a hot start this weekend, with quite a few events set for Saturday. The early bird events will include the Hushpuppy Dash 5K Walk/Run, the Car and Bike Show, the Catfish Clash boxing event and the Fish Fry Fling disc golf tournament.

Henry County is looking for a new veterans service officer after parting ways with Jon Bolding earlier this month. The county is accepting resumes for the job through 4 p.m. April 3. They may be dropped off in person at County Mayor Randy Geiger’s office in the courthouse or may be emailed to [email protected]. All applicants must be an honorably discharged veteran and must submit a Military Discharge Form (DD-214) with their resume.

He’ll always love the Big Orange, but Ryan Damron now is concentrating on making purple and black the prominent color combination in his football life. The former Henry County High School star quarterback has landed in Nacogdoches, Texas, ready to compete for the starting QB job at Stephen F. Austin State University. Damron spent the last two seasons as a preferred walk-on at the University of Tennessee, then entered the transfer portal in the early part of the offseason.
