No, the 2024-25 NHL season is not finished, even if it might feel that way to many fans. The league didn’t do itself any favours by going dark for five nights after the Florida Panthers and then the Edmonton Oilers punched their tickets to the Stanley Cup Final last week. But TV commitments, including stickhandling around the NBA Finals, meant an extended timeout. Good news: The waiting game is now over and the puck will finally drop on Wednesday night inside Rogers Place.

All the effort Scott Arniel put into rebranding himself was time well spent. Although his second chance as an NHL head coach didn’t lead directly to the promised land, Arniel showed over the course of the season that he was the right choice to replace Rick Bowness as the bench boss of the Winnipeg Jets.

Mason Appleton not only wore his heart on his sleeve, he stated his intentions just above the brim of his cap. As he stood in front of reporters on Tuesday, the Winnipeg Jets right-winger was sporting a lid with WPG on it. For someone who is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, it wasn’t an accident Appleton chose to show his support to a community he’s grown to be a big part of, spending nearly seven-and-a-half of his eight NHL seasons in the Jets’ organization.
