Cole Perfetti made it clear right out of the gate that he wasn’t the superstitious type. So while some folks might be hesitant talking about something before it actually happens, the Winnipeg Jets forward leaned into questions about what it will mean to him to suit up in all 82 games this season. By suiting up in Wednesday’s finale against the Anaheim Ducks, Perfetti will accomplish the feat for the first time in his career — and it’s something that means a lot to him.

All signs point to the Winnipeg Jets starting the Stanley Cup playoffs without forward Nikolaj Ehlers. Jets head coach Scott Arniel said Ehlers was week-to-week after colliding with a linesman in Saturday’s game with the Chicago Blackhawks and aggravating a lower-body injury he sustained earlier this season. “It was related to the first one and he got re-injured when he ran into the linesman,” said Arniel.

The regular-season banners have been secured and are on order. This was the final checkmark to hit in the regular season — even if it wasn’t on the original itinerary. On a night where the Winnipeg Jets rested several regulars and weren’t operating at full capacity, a 4-1 loss to the Edmonton Oilers was a whole lot easier to sweep under the rug. That’s because the Jets have clinched the Presidents’ Trophy for the first time in franchise history by virtue of the 114 points they’ve already put in the bank.

CHICAGO — How serendipitous the Windy City, of all places, is where the Winnipeg Jets can make some hockey history Saturday night. Chicago is where their general manager, Kevin Cheveldayoff, guided the IHL’s Wolves to a pair of Turner Cup championships as he began cutting his executive teeth in the late 1990s. It’s where he won two Calder Cup titles with the AHL squad in the early 2000s. And it’s where he got his first NHL gig and promptly won a Stanley Cup in 2010.
