“Barbados has committed to becoming fossil-fuel-free by 2030, but that will probably cause huge economic damage because not a lot of people here can afford an electric car. Brazil solved this problem with cars fuelled by sugar-cane biodiesel, but there’s not enough sugar cane grown here to copy that approach. One of my undergraduate students, Brittney McKenzie, saw a possible solution. There is a sargassum seaweed crisis in Barbados.

Mountain Home High School NerDFest Esports won the Idaho State Championship Friday, May 10th, while competing in League of Legends. State championship ESports is like any other sport, but itís more difficult in a unique way, because you arenít throwing a ball or working out to be faster or bigger or stronger. You also have to learn a multitude of Video Game characters and know which one is best to play and when youíll want to play certain characters.

“As a public-health researcher based in Grenada, I’m looking at some of the climate-change issues that plague this small island state and the wider Caribbean region. Agriculture is facing a significant impact from climate change here, especially from droughts on the northern, drier side of the island, and it needs to adapt and respond. In this photo, I’m measuring green-bean plants in an experiment that my team and I ran at the request of Grenada’s government.
