Richmond Superintendent Jason Kamras has backed off of a proposal to split the costs of health insurance increases equally between the division and employees after backlash from unions and concerns from School Board members. “It is no longer part of the proposed budget,” he told the board at its Monday night work session.

As city officials continue to project that money will be tighter next year, the Richmond School Board on Tuesday asked the superintendent to cut the school division’s request for additional funding from $43 million to $30 million. “We have to make some hard decisions tonight,” said Board Chair Shavonda Fernandez.

Jessica Grimes was a sophomore at Nashville’s Fisk University when she first received a scholarship from KR Scholars. She now describes the group as “family” to her. She has since graduated and is now attending one of the few historically Black medical colleges in the country, to pursue her dream of being a dentist. Hers is one of a number of success stories touted by KR Scholars, a nonprofit founded by Kristen Johnson with her husband, Rufus.

4 min Before attacking the snow, a quick update on the James River. In Richmond, the river crested on Tuesday afternoon and will slowly fall on Wednesday, returning to its banks before midday Thursday. With that, on to the main event:All remains on track for snow for Richmond, with the first few flakes in the air on Wednesday morning. Then the snow turns more consistent during the afternoon, which is when the accumulation will begin.
