Reservoir police are urging boaters to prioritize safety on the water after a fisherman died after he was struck by lightning. "We preach this every year about boat safety, please have your life vest on. If you see storms coming up, if you are out in the middle of our lake out here, as shallow as it is, it doesn't take much wind for waves to start turning. You can get in a dangerous situation, especially in a lightning storm," said Chief Carlos Dipuma.

The city of Vicksburg is under a state of emergency in response to the rising Mississippi River, which is expected to reach 47.5 feet, a moderate flood stage, around April 20.The flood wall at the waterfront has marks indicating different water levels, and on Friday, the city put up barriers to fill in the gaps on the wall. Mayor George Flaggs emphasized the importance of being prepared."The catch is to keep the water in the river, not out here, that's what we have to do," Flaggs said.
