    First Lady Misty Wainwright kicked off the second annual Celebration of Lights on Tuesday night by lighting the Christmas tree outside the Student Union. The night featured Christmas-themed activities, such as cookie decorating and riding a mechanical bull dressed as a reindeer. Students could buy food from a pair of food trucks and receive hot chocolate from a stand outside. DJ Trigga Trey, who frequently works at SLU events, provided music throughout the night.

    My days of casual film viewing are over. Now, I’m Southeastern’s newest, loathsome cinephile snob.  I’ve undergone the standard initiation: buying a MUBI subscription and watching low-budget arthouse films in the early hours of the morning. I even went to the movie theatre by myself, specifically to watch Winter 2024’s critical darling, “Anora.” American director Sean Baker’s latest film has had a stellar year. In May, “Anora” won the prestigious Palme d’Or at the Cannes Festival.

    The American two-party system has once again spat out a pair of unlikeable candidates, much to the displeasure of the American electorate. On Nov. 5, voters such as myself will embrace the quadrennial tradition of slumping to the polls, and most of us will feel greatly underwhelmed, even by the candidate we choose. Regardless of November’s eventual winner, America is in dire straits. However, there are levels of incompetency, and in that respect, our two candidates are not equal.

    Categories: Hurricane Francine made landfall late on Wednesday, Sept. 11 as a category 2 storm, resulting in high rain totals, strong winds and widespread outages. Due to the storm, Southeastern closed from 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10 to 7:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 13, after initially planning to reopen Thursday, Sept. 12. On-campus residents were urged to leave, while those who stayed had to remain in their rooms.
