State lawmakers are right in the middle of their legislative session, and WXII 12 News had the opportunity to interview Senate President Phil Berger at his office in Raleigh. He says the number one job of the legislature right now is to make sure they've done everything possible to help the people of western North Carolina, but they're also waiting to see what the federal response will look like, moving forward. He hopes to be able to vote on the senate's version of the budget before Easter.

A new economic report shows Americans are growing increasingly unsettled about the nation's economy. February's Consumer Confidence Index, released Tuesday morning by The Conference Board, shows the biggest month-to-month drop in three and a half years. The CCI, which measures how Americans feel about their finances and the economy in general, now sits at 98.3, which is also its lowest point in eight months.
