The economy is central to the society which you seek to build and it’s the issue that ignites most interest among voters, even if that is at the basic level of jobs and the cost of living, rather than at any macro or theoretical level.

    We’re not turning the page on Alex Salmond but reading from his script THE Alba conference held in Edinburgh at the end of last week saw the party in good heart and readying for the vital Holyrood elections next year. The conference had, of course, been delayed from last November with leadership elections brought about by a tragedy which befell not just the party but Scotland.

The British Empire did it on an industrial scale, taking natural resources from peoples across the continents and then selling a refined or industrialised product back to the same people at a premium.
