    Authorities are investigating the death of man whose burnt body was found near the top of Stone Mountain outside Atlanta Saturday morning. The body was found near the top of the mountain after a hiker who discovered it called 911, Stone Mountain Park Police spokesperson John Bankhead said. The hiker did not leave their contact information with dispatchers, Bankhead said. Bankhead described the body as an adult male, likely in their 20s or 30s.

    The Georgia Supreme Court upheld a state law Wednesday that bans most people under 21 from carrying a handgun in public. Under Georgia law, anyone ages 18 to 20 years old can possess handguns on their own property, in their car, at their business or for hunting, fishing and sport shooting. Those in the age group who have been trained by the military are exempt.

    LGBTQ+ people in the U.S. see lower social acceptance for transgender people than those who are lesbian, gay or bisexual, a new Pew Research Center poll found. Pew found that about 6 in 10 LGBTQ+ adults said there is “a great deal” or “a fair amount” of social acceptance in the U.S. for gay and lesbian people. Only about 1 in 10 said the same for nonbinary and transgender people — and about half said there was “not much” or no acceptance at all for transgender people.

    The Scripps National Spelling Bee is in its final day, as nine students compete for the national victory, including a two-time Georgia spelling bee champion. The annual competition, held in Maryland, began Tuesday with 243 competitors from all across the country. And tonight, the final competitors will compete for the medal and a $50,000 cash prize in a live televised competition.
