Most photographers have heard of the S curve, and this example photo is a literal example of the concept. Fun FactThe S curve did not originate with photography. It dates back to 4th-century Greek sculpture and was initially called the Praxitelean curve. Praxitelean was the first artist credited with using the S curve in his sculpture artwork.

    I think we can all agree that our goal is to make our photos as perfect as possible. Some of that process occurs within the camera. However, in the era of digital photography, we are given far greater tools to work with than our previous brethren had with just film. The key to perfection is post-processing. And the key to perfection in post-processing comes with masking. In this example photo above, the version on the left has no mask.

    My journey into Grunge Photography began with the image below. I was writing a serialized fictional story on Instagram. Since Instagram is a visual medium, I needed a photograph for each post that illustrated that chapter of the story. The story is a surreal fantasy noir, so the images had to be… a bit out of the ordinary. Grunge techniques gave me just the creative options that I needed. Since then, I’ve made use of grunge photography for stock photo sales as well.
