    HAZLE TWP. — Hazleton Area School Board is poised to ask an architect to begin designing a new school and two other projects. An item on the agenda at Thursday’s committee meeting recommended that the board approve agreements with KCBA Architects to design and engineer a school for students from first to fifth grades. The new school will go behind Hazleton Area High School, Superintendent Brian Uplinger said.

    Singer and comedian Charlie Prose said a conversation at one of his shows on the Jersey shore led to a telethon that has helped children in Hazleton for 40 years. At the show, Prose heard about the failure of a concert that John Seamon tried to stage for the Easter Seal Society he directed in Hazleton. “They had booked another singer, who will go unnamed — he’s passed on — for a show, sold tickets, and he never showed up,” Prose recalled.
