The peaks of the LP spectrum represent the resonances and harmonics. One of the peaks corresponds to the pitch. Estimating the peak locations from a discrete spectrum may compromise resolution, as the number of bins limits the spectral resolution. LP spectrum is an all-pole model where poles model the spectral peaks. LP offers the advantage of computing precise pitch and harmonic values directly from the pole angles of the denominator polynomial ( 1,aks) of Eq. (2).

KeywordsBayesian-based equivalent sound source model, military jet aircraft, F-22CollegePhysical and Mathematical SciencesDepartmentPhysics and AstronomyAbstractMilitary jet aircraft are some of the fastest vehicles ever made. Their jet engines exhaust fuel at supersonic speeds and create large amounts of noise. However, this noise is loud enough to cause hearing loss, even with the most advanced levels of hearing protection.

Keywordssound radiation, hammered dulcimer, near-filed acoustical holography, NAHCollegePhysical and Mathematical SciencesDepartmentPhysics and AstronomyAbstractThe hammered dulcimer is a stringed instrument of the zither family, typically consisting of a wooden trapezoidal body with metal strings stretched across the frame. A typical dulcimer can span anywhere between 2 1/2 and 5 octaves, depending on the size of the instrument.

KeywordsPHARM, physical acoustics, student writingCollegePhysical and Mathematical SciencesDepartmentPhysics and AstronomyAbstractPHARM (PHysical Acoustics Research and Mentoring) has been operating partially with support from a MEG grant since 2009. The primary purpose of this mentoring environment is to provide undergraduates in physics and applied physics opportunities to gain experience in fundamental areas of physical acoustics.
