You’d think that with K-12 enrollment declining, the overall cost of educating Virginia’s children might start declining as well. The number of school-age children is sliding down a long slope (see graph above), and there is no indication that the exodus of 44,000 or so pupils during the COVID pandemic to private schools and home schools is about to reverse itself.

If news reports are accurate, that is. Here’s what I gleaned from reading a slew of accounts: Louis is a 24-year-old father of three. His oldest child is 10, meaning he was a dad at 14. He also has a six-year-old and one-year-old. On the 22nd of March Louis walked with his kids to a McDonald’s near his apartment because he doesn’t have a car. He had a job interview nearby and at 4:30 he briefly left the children in the McDonald’s “Playplace” with the 10-year-old in charge of the younger siblings.

I tossed former Virginia Beach Councilman, John Moss, a multiple choice question when I talked to him yesterday: Is the proposed Virginia Beach budget better, worse or about the same as what we’ve come to expect from the fools at City Hall? “Worse,” he replied. “I’d say much worse. “Due to unexpected windfalls in the real estate assessments and state funds, every person in Virginia’s largest city ought to get a tax break this year, Moss said. Let’s check in on the left - and paid social media influencers - to see what they’re screaming about today, shall we? Oh boy, this is a good one: They’re livid that food stamp recipients in the SNAP program may be prevented from using their government assistance to buy junk food. You know, sodas, cookies, sugary cereals, chips, etc. Efforts to restrict SNAP purchases takes away the autonomy of the consumer to make their own decisions.
