CAOIMHIN AGYARKO almost had enough of the boxing racket – but a phone call before a game of padel reeled him back in. The Belfast light-middleweight has previously been on the books of both Frank Warren’s Queensbury Promotions and Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, but was let go by both. Activity became an issue but outside of the ring, Agyarko kept himself busy with other sports while inside the ropes, a quickfire burst of action has his dreaming of world title glory once more.

CAOIMHIN AGYARKO is ready to throw down in all-Irish derby fights with rising stars Callum Walsh and Aaron McKenna – but the Belfast boxer’s plans have hit roadblocks this year. Agyarko, 28, revealed he was offered bouts with both Walsh and McKenna, though neither came to fruition. AARON McKENNA eclipsed Liam Smith during a Spurfect display at the Tottenham Stadium. The unbeaten Monaghan middleweight, 25, was taking a huge step up in class against the former world champion. McKenna turned down a world title shot to box at the 62,850-seater Premier League ground, confident a huge win would put him in the shop window for future lucrative outings.

But his hand was raised at the end of four tough rounds with British journeyman Ryan Labourn at the National Stadium. Roddy told SunSport: “That’s proper professional boxing. He was brought into situations he hasn’t experienced yet.

RISING stars Eoghan Lavin and Steven Cairns both agreed – there’s something about the National Stadium. The purpose-built Dublin boxing venue has hosted bands like Led Zeppelin, U2 and The Pogues. And it is the place where future Irish world champions such as Barry McGuigan, Steve Collins and Andy Lee won their first national crowns. Lavin won nine as a kid while Cairns claimed five – and both are excited for their return this weekend.

The spite Anthony Cacace puts into those left hooks when he's looking to get someone out of there. Backs up all the talk from years ago about him being such a dangerous puncher. Top notch

Anthony Cacace. What a sensational stoppage of Leigh Wood. Towel in. The Cacace story continues!
