The Tulsa Parks and Recreation Board on Tuesday will discuss and possibly act on the city’s recommendation to use a portion of Newblock Park for transitional housing for the homeless. As an advisory body, the Parks Board is being asked whether it supports the city’s proposal to abandon for park use land on the far west edge of the park to allow for a transitional housing program. The area is a significant distance from any park amenities.

Nichols made his comments in response to a question from Tulsa World columnist Ginnie Graham during a podcast interview. “We have had a lot of conversation about not basing our economic future on data centers, and a lot of that’s because, in addition to the environmental issues, they typically aren’t massive job creators,” Nichols said. “I think there’s a space for some of that activity. Data centers as a whole I don’t think will ever be a kind of critical piece of our economic development effort.

More than 300 people made their way to Crossover Community Impact in north Tulsa on Thursday night for the last of five Community Conversations with Mayor Monroe Nichols. Some, like Linda Caine, waited in line to enter the building. Caine, 70, said she wanted to hear from the mayor about what is going on in the community and to show her support. “I think he’s feeling his way,” she said of the new mayor’s performance so far.
