Hope Vinson has been involved in some of the Henry-Senachwine volleyball team’s most successful seasons, both as a player and as an assistant coach. Vinson played on the Mallards’ 18-15 regional championship team in 2010 and was an assistant coach last season when Henry won a school-record 30 matches, won a regional - its first since 2010 - and played in a sectional final.

Girls wrestling has grown significantly at La Salle-Peru over the last three years. Kiely Domyancich was the program’s lone female wrestler when she was a freshman. The Cavaliers had three girls wrestlers last year and 12 this past season. L-P also had its first female state medalist last season as Domyancich placed fifth at state at 115 pounds.

Freshman Kennedy Holocker has had a strong start to her varsity softball career at Putnam County. Last week, Holocker helped the Panthers to a 3-1 week with solid performances at the plate and in the pitching circle. Holocker was 9 for 13 with five doubles, nine RBIs and seven runs scored while going 1-1 in the circle. “Kennedy played great last week,” Putnam County coach Adrianna Zeman said. “She was seeing the ball incredibly well at the plate and worked hard in the circle to get the job done.

St. Bede 12, Woodland/Flanagan-Cornell 0 (5 inn.): Emma Slingsby went 3 for 4 with a triple, drove in four runs and scored three runs as the Bruins cruised to a Tri-County Conference victory Thursday in Peru. Ava Balestri was 3 for 3 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs for St. Bede (7-1, 6-0 TCC), while Lily Bosnich was 4 for 4 with two triples, four runs and an RBI. Macy Strauch threw a six-hit shutout.

PERU - St. Bede senior Alan Spencer was jogging laps with a yellow hard hat on his head Thursday. “The hard hat means we’re hard at work,” Spencer said. “It started last year. I think it’s a fun way to really get people pumped up to try and win this and the bat (given to the hitter of the game).”Spencer earned the hard hat by throwing a two-hit shutout to lead the Bruins to a 10-0, six-inning victory over Woodland/Flanagan-Cornell in a Tri-County Conference game.
