    THE traditional demarcation lines in Offaly football and hurling are “blurring”, a meeting of the County Board was told this week. Planning and Training Officer Joe Cleary referred to the recent Offaly Cumann na mBunscol hurling finals and wins for Boher and Clonmacoise National Schools. Boher, in the Ballycumber area and Clonmacoise, in Shannonbridge, are in the traditional heartland of Offaly football – Clonmacnoise gets some pupils from a predominantly hurling area in Belmont.

    OFFALY got as favourable a draw as they could have hoped for in the preliminary quarter-finals of the Tailteann Cup but they will still be on the highest state of alert for the visit of New York to Tullamore next Saturday. After last year's horrific defeat against another team of exiles, London, Offaly will be taking absolutely nothing for granted and will definitely be putting their best foot forward.

    A MUCH improved disciplinary record in the Offaly adult and underage football and hurling leagues was highlighted at a meeting of the Offaly GAA County Board on Tuesday evening. Competitions Control Committee secretary Pat Teehan told delegates that 395 games were played between football and hurling in adult and underage. Noting that there were only 28 disciplinary actions out of those games, he revealed that there were 19 red cards which received a one match ban and one with a two match ban.
