A court has ruled that Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis can continue his libel lawsuit against one of his rivals from Greek football who ran an alleged "smear campaign" against him. The shipping magnate - who also owns Olympiacos in Piraeus, Athens - brought the case against Irini Karipidis, chairperson of rival club Aris Thessaloniki, and three other claimants, including Ari Harow, formerly the chief of staff to Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

There was a fraction of a second during Portugal's victory over Slovenia at Euro 2024 when even the supreme self-confidence of Cristiano Ronaldo would surely have wavered. Not during one of his eight shots in the last-16 match where he failed to score. Or even when his free kick late in the game - his 60th at a major tournament for his country, bringing just a solitary goal - sailed wide from an acute angle. Pah, don't be silly, this is the leading scorer in international football history.

Raya had made it clear in public that the time was right for him to leave Brentford. Spurs, who were moving on from their long-term first-choice goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and ushering in a new era under Ange Postecoglu, would have been a good fit.
