Journalism instructor Jay Gilmore has submitted his resignation and will not return next semester, Gaylord College Dean Andrea Miller confirmed to OU Daily on Feb. 28. The Daily has learned through subsequent interviews with Gaylord students and faculty and documents provided to the Daily that Gilmore was the subject of at least three Title IX reports during his time teaching at the university from August 2023 to December 2024.

Ward 1 Councilmember Austin Ball has changed his plea from not guilty to no contest, agreeing to a plea deal on charges of embezzlement and making false statements in his campaign expenditure reports. Ball will serve a two-year deferred sentence. If Ball successfully completes the conditions of the deferred sentence, charges will be dismissed. According to court documents, conditions include a $50 payment Victim Compensation Assessment fee and a substance abuse evaluation within 30 days.

Oklahomans for Responsible Economic Development filed a brief Tuesday requesting the Oklahoma Supreme Court hear their appeal of a ruling in favor of a challenge to the group’s referendum petition to turn the Rock Creek Entertainment District to a public vote. On Feb. 21, Cleveland County Judge Jeff Virgin ruled that the gist of the petition was insufficient.

Ward 1 Councilmember Austin Ball pleaded not guilty to charges of misdemeanor embezzlement and false certificate by a public officer. Outside Cleveland County Special Judge Cory Ortega’s chambers, Ball told OU Daily he has not yet hired a lawyer, but said he was narrowing down his choices. “I’ve interviewed a few attorneys, had quite a bit of interest wanting to represent this,” Ball said.

Oklahomans for Responsible Economic Development is hosting a community town hall at St. Stephens United Methodist Church on Friday at 6:30 p.m.ORED member, Paul Arcaroli, encouraged Norman residents to attend the event in an interview with OU Daily. “It’s important to be informed about the financial and social consequences of any sort of project that any stakeholder wants to introduce to the community,” Arcaroli said.
