Through pure determination, somehow the Ragin’ Cajuns won 10 of their last 11 Sun Belt games to reach the Sun Belt Tournament semifinals against as the No. 3 seed. But most of that was achieved with few runs being scored and that trend caught up with the Cajuns on Friday when No. 7-seeded Coastal Carolina claimed a 6-1 win over UL to advance to the championship game. The loss ended the Cajuns’ season at 29-25 overall.

    When UL squares off against Southern Miss in baseball, it’s one of those series that’s big even if it the Sun Belt standings didn’t agree. With the top four positions still up for grabs with six games to go, it can safely be called a huge series for both squads.     As the proud UL softball program went through the painful process of losing four of its first five Sun Belt Conference series after not losing any for 12 years, the message from first-year head coach Alyson Habetz didn’t change. Well actually, there were several of them, but they all pointed back to the same thing. “The best is yet to come,” repeated Habetz, whose Cajuns (28-24, 14-10) begin Sun Belt tournament play at 10 a.m. Thursday against App State in Troy, Alabama.
