    MOORE HAVEN – For some of the rising juniors and seniors on the Moore Haven High School football team, getting accustomed to a new head coach is nothing new. In May, the Terriers wrapped up spring practice with Deric Allen at the helm in his first season. Allen brings playing and coaching experience to the program, but he also knows first-hand how difficult it is for players to adjust to new coaches multiple times.

    LONGWOOD – The Evangelical Christian School softball team is one win away from bringing home a state championship to Fort Myers for the second year in a row. On a sweltering afternoon – game time temperature was 95 degrees – ECS  cruised to a 13-0 win against Tallahassee’s North Florida Christian School in a Class 1A state semifinal May 20 at Boombah Soldiers Creek Park in Longwood, about 15 miles north of downtown Orlando.

    The Seminole Tribe of Florida’s Hadyn Billie threw a complete game two-hitter with seven strikeouts to lead the Evangelical Christian School softball team to an 11-0 win against Shoreline Prep in a Class 1A regional final May 15 in Fort Myers. The tribe’s Payton Billie (2-for-3 with two RBIs), Angelina Yzaguirre (one double, one RBI) and Paizley Billie (one single, one RBI) contributed to the offense, which pounded out 12 hits in the five-inning game.

The Patriots have won eight state championships, third most in the state. On May 7, 2025, Okeechobee, a young team with several Seminole Tribe of Florida tribal members, never flinched in classic battle for seven innings against powerful American Heritage.

    BRIGHTON — A varsity high school softball game between Moore Haven and Okeechobee served as a “homecoming” for many players from the Seminole Tribe of Florida. In front of about 130 spectators April 14, Okeechobee enjoyed a big night at the plate as the Brahmans defeated Moore Haven, 15-2, in five innings under the lights at Ollie Jones Memorial Park on the Brighton Reservation, where several of the players live and/or attended Pemayetv Emahakv Charter School.
