    Seminole Tribe of Florida descendent Tyler Hiatt was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Year on March 6. Hiatt, a senior at the University of Sioux Falls in South Dakota, won two events at the NSIC Indoor Championships Feb. 28-March 1 in Mankato, Minnesota. Hiatt won the weight throw title (64 feet,1.25 inches) and the shot put (58 feet, 5.75 inches). He earned all-conference honors in both events.

    MOORE HAVEN – For three quarters it looked like the Moore Haven High School boys basketball team’s season would end. But after trailing most of the night, the Terriers clicked when it counted most and surged past visiting Fort Meade High School to win the Rural Class District 8 championship, 51-47, on Feb. 7, 2025. The victory clinched a spot in the FHSAA regionals for the Terriers (13-7), who will face Hawthorne (16-3), from Alachua County, in a regional semifinal Feb.

    The Nevada Gaming Control Board received an update on the status of the Hard Rock Las Vegas construction project at its Jan. 15 meeting. The board heard from Frank Cassella, senior vice president of Finance for Hard Rock Las Vegas. Cassella appeared before the board as part of an application for his licensure as a key executive, which the board unanimously recommended approval to the Nevada Gaming Commission. Cassella earned an accounting degree from Penn State University.

    TALLAHASSEE — The Seminole Tribe’s princesses are not even halfway through their year of representing the tribe, but both said the experience so far has already exceeded their expectations. “This is everything I expected, and more. I love it a lot,” said Miss Florida Seminole CeCe Thomas. Case in point came at Florida State University’s homecoming weekend.
