Just when you thought that we were not going to get more Arnold Schwarzenegger representation in a fighting game, Mortal Kombat 1 and Netherrealm Studios decided to go the distance. Conan will be the Governator’s new entry into the battle for Earthrealm on January 21st. This Conan is based on the Governator’s 1982 movie – Conan The Barbarian. Each move, pose, and even lines, are from that run. In the trailer, Conan is joined by Classic Sonya Blade cameo to… well, konquer.

With Team of 3 Mode out in the wild, the Daredevils of Guilty Gear Strive will be out of a veteran for a couple more months. Venom will be moved to March’s end instead of his originally planned release date. Other DLC characters for the year, including Unika from the Guilty Gear Strive anime, and guest characters Cyberpunk: Edgerunner‘s Lucy, will still be in Spring and Summer 2025 respectively.

The King of Fighters XIII Global Match will be coming in hot on February 20th this year. Unfortunately, King of Fighters XIII Steam Edition will be removed earlier on to make way for the updated Global Match edition. The 3rd and final canon entry in SNK Playmore’s Ash Saga will be taken down from the store on January 23rd, according to SNK’s official Twitter/X account. Upgrading to the Global Edition will be $6.99/€6.89 for previous Steam account owners.

Netherrealm Studios announced the next season of the Mortal Kombat 1 Pro Kompetition esports run. With several events already planned for the season, the Mortal Kombat 1-focused spectacle has its’ work cut out for it. Kompetitors (yes, we’re spelling it this way here) can qualify for the Final Kombat World Championship in September 2025 through these 10 events and claim their stake at the $255,000, USD prize pool. Online tournaments will also be available for qualifiers and doubled.

In the Evo Las Vegas 2025 presentation event last night, hosted by FGC commentators Rynge and Jaidlyn, the new roster of other tournaments was revealed last night. With what we already know about the main stages being covered, the side courses were also revealed.

Mai Shiranui finally makes her way onto Street Fighter 6 in her official gameplay trailer. Not World Tour. Mai’s kit is on full display in this trailer. Chun-Li and she have some sorting out to do. The opposite end of the first fighting game queens has a score to settle that’s been 30+ years in the making. As to what brings her to Metro City is still a mystery that could be solved through World Tour or even the Arcade mode.

Virtua Fighter 5 REVO’s pool has doubled from 128 to 256 players at the Frosty Faustings XVII Tournament on January 25, 2025 in Lombard, Illonois. The prize pool has also doubled to $2000 USD. All participants will be getting their very own t-shirt to commemorate the tournament. The R.E.V.O. build will be the one being used, which is also the 2.0 update for the game on PlayStation 4/5.

Capcom did something special for Mai Shiranui on her birthday – January 1st. The Fatal Fury character will be coming to Street Fighter 6 this winter. Because of this, Mai and Terry are official members of the World Warrior mythos. What is surprising about the update is Mai’s illustration. Right on time to blow out the candles and eat osechi for good luck. An early Happy New Year to all our World Warriors!In 2025, Mai and Elena will bring the fans and dancing to #StreetFighter6.

Surprisingly, Evo themselves have decided to leak the line-up for the August spectacle. A special presentation will be coming up next week, but the organization already showed their hand accidentally. The Evo 2025 lineup surfaced by accident, which has already been taken off of the roster by the time of this writing. Fighting Games Daily took to twitter with this vital information.

Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku revealed footage from the New Virtua Fighter Project for CES 2025. Akira is having himself a classic mirror match and looking a bit more different than ever before. The old city, from the first preview, sets the stage for a quick fight for the mainstay face of the franchise. Riichiro Yamada, from RGG, stated that this concept took a month to produce after the initial planning. Akira does look different as much as the project does.
