This was a big deal, because, as you well know, the reason they lost to the Mets and D Backs in the playoffs is because they were swinging at flaming hot garbage outside of the zone. The statistic was everywhere on April 6th, super-early in the season, so a lot of people rightfully scoffed.

They finished as a runner up in 2014, 2015, and 2018, and after competing in the nascent Leagues Cup for a few years now, they’re back in the American tournament that resembles England’s FA Cup and Spain’s Copa del Rey.

Adding three runs in the top of the 8th, they scratched out one more in the 9th, sent the game to extras, and knocked in two more runs to complete a gritty, 7-6 comeback win. They’ve won 9 of 11 to move within two games of the Mets atop the NL East.
