For biotech, 2022 may be best described as a cumulative hangover year. Sector indices plummeted, M&A opportunities dried up and the IPO window slammed shut. The year stood in stark relief to what LifeSci Communications founding partner and CEO Matt Middleman characterizes as the “market exuberance” of 2021. “Everyone got funding in 2020 and 2021, even if you were five years away from launch,” he explains. “A lot of companies that shouldn’t have gotten funding got funding.

But, at least by its own standards, Moon Rabbit had something of a traditional 2022. After growing 44% in 2021, the company decided to devote last year to a realignment of sorts. To that end, Moon Rabbit put down roots in a new office and set about reinforcing its unique culture and operating philosophy.

For Pivot Design, 2022 represented something of a maturation year. In 2021, the company took the full plunge into health and wellness, and its bet paid immediate dividends: That year, revenue rose 34%. The massive jump in business perhaps undersells how significant a transition it was for the company. “It was a pretty tricky moment in time, having to say no [to clients outside health and wellness] and adjusting relationships,” admits Pivot president and executive creative director Liz Kanter.
