regulation to revise the technology-based effluent limitations
guidelines and standards (ELGs) for a subset of steam-generating
electric power plants that burn coal. ELGs are industry-specific,
national wastewater discharge standards that are included in
National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits
issued by states and U.S. EPA regional offices.

Dick Durbin (IL) introduced the Forever Chemical Regulation and
Accountability Act of 2024. This bill proposes the first federal
law that would require the phaseout of PFAS within certain product
categories, prohibiting the sale or distribution of these products
within the U.S. as early as one year after the enactment date. The
bill proposes a full phaseout of nonessential uses of PFAS within
ten years of the enactment date.

On May 17, 2024, U.S. EPA finalized the addition of seven PFAS chemicals
to the agency's Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) program. These
seven PFAS will become reportable for reporting year 2024, with a
reporting deadline of July 1, 2025.
The newest PFAS additions bring the total number of TRI-listed
PFAS to 196. The 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)
authorizes U.S. EPA to automatically add certain PFAS to the TRI
program on an annual basis.

A deep-water swimmer averted serious injury when he forcibly grabbed and threw two attacking cookiecutter sharks. Andy Walberer, 50, had smeared himself with diaper cream before he started his Molokai channel swim March 19 at 5:58 p.m.The experienced swimmer was followed by a support kayak sporting two shark deterrent devices both with 4- to 6-foot cables attached. His swim was going well until he was approximately 12 miles off the coast.
