Although the Blue Earth Area girls golf team did not advance to the second day of the Section 2AA Golf Tournament, two BEA individual golfers did qualify to continue Section play. Katelyn Storbeck and Madison Ehrich of the Bucs will each tee the ball up again on Tuesday, June 3, for the second round of the Section 2AA Tourney which is being played at the New Prague Golf Club. Only the four top teams advance to the second day of the tourney.

Thompson Park continued to be a major topic of discussion for the Wells City Council when they met on Tuesday, May 27. After the city’s most recent Park Board meeting, city administrator Tiffany Schrader shared concerns were raised about the use of the new concession stand located at the park. “It is a city-owned building, but we don’t know who is using it,” Schrader said. “We need to have control over who is using it.”The question was raised regarding how things had been done in the past.

A total of 15 boys golf teams battled in the opening round of the Section 2AA Boys Golf Tournament at New Prague Golf Club on May 28. The top four teams from the first day of golf, along with some individuals who are not members of one of the top-four teams, advance to the second and final round which will be played at the same golf course on Tuesday, June 3. In first place for the teams after the opening round is Southwest Christian with a team score of nine-over-par 297.

The Blue Earth Area girls golf team played in their final regular-season meet of the year on Monday, May 19. They competed against Blooming Prairie, Hayfield, Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial and New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva at the Waseca Lakeside Club Golf Course. BEA and Hayfield were the only two schools to field complete teams and the Bucs finished in front of the Vikings with a team score of 404, which was 73 strokes better than Hayfield’s score of 477.

John and Cindy Herman were honored at the United South Central School Board meeting on May 20 for their tremendous work and effort in hosting foreign exchange students at USC. “Students from other backgrounds and experiences add so much to the school experience for our students, and the perspective they bring to our school and community has such an impact on expanding the horizons here,” USC School superintendent Taylor Topinka said while presenting the award to the Hermans.
